ERNEST DEZENTJE (Dutch, 1884-1972). Dezentje, who was born in Jatinegara, Jakarta in 1885, is often associated with the "Indonesian School" of painting. Primarily a landscape artist, he also painted in Sumatra and Batavia. Dezentje also trained his adopted son Djupriany as a painter. Former Indonesian President Sukarno very much liked Dezentje's work, and gave several of his paintings as gifts to President Tito of Yugoslavia. He died in Jakarta on January 12, 1972
